Arlington Sun Gazette: Big Foot
Link to his article.
If Michael Dola’s nickname is “big foot†that would certainly be an appropriate description.
That’s because the Yorktown High School senior place-kicker and punter has been booming the ball with thunderous and lengthy results all season long, no matter what type of kick.

Varsity News: A Conversation With ‘Internet Sensation’ Michael Dola
This week at Varsity News, we talk to Michael Dola. He’s the best kicker in the D.C. area and the reluctant co-star of football blooper that has gone viral.
Oct 15, 2010 – My name is Jordan Ruby and I’ve been living in the DMV for five years and covering high school sports in the area for four. Varsity News is a weekly feature that reviews all the best local action in a single place, bullet pointed for easy digestion.
Michael Dola is the placekicker for Yorktown High School in Arlington, and he’s known for his touchbacks. He’s got a strong leg and usually a forces opponent to start their drives at the 20-yard line. He’s a field position generator.

How local coach Paul Woodside teaches future NFL kickers, one leg at a time
Last week, ESPN began running a short video of a high school football player catching a kickoff and immediately running into the goalpost at the back of his own end zone. The blooper aspect of the clip got it heavy rotation.
What I found most striking about the viral video, however, was the distance of the kick: The ball traveled almost 70 yards in the air. When I saw that the incident happened locally—the kicker was Michael Dola from Arlington’s Yorktown High—my first thought was: “I bet Paul Woodside coached him!â€
Yup.
“Michael Dola! He’s one of my guys!†Woodside, the region’s pre-eminent kicking coach, tells me as soon as I mention the clip. “Big leg! Great kid! Awesome!â€
